AboutBackground

Urbanisation has rapidly taken place over a comparatively brief time frame and hasĀ  brought significant economic, political and technological changes. Urbanisation is not uniform; there is huge diversity and this has had a large role to play in feelings of un- connectedness particularly with regards young people.

The lives of urban youth are often dominated by the need to find productive work, yet labour markets are often unfavourable towards youth employment. The role of formal education in gaining employment is evident but not straight forward. Youth unemployment may often affect the more highly educated youth.

Innovation

The YIC involves the development and implementation of a fully integrated partnership youth facility providing a range of health, education, employment and leisure activities aimed to increase social connectedness. It will utilise a co-production approach where service users (young people), are actively involved and empowered in designing services.

The YIC will link with the EYIP and provide young people with a platform that encourages creativity and dares them to dream about a future they can create as we build a culture of innovation.

The community based infrastructure will meet all its energy needs from renewable sources which are integrated into the building.
